Consensys, in collaboration with YouGov, conducted a study that found that 93% of people worldwide are familiar with cryptocurrencies, with 51% of respondents stating that they have a good understanding of the subject.
According to the data, the number of people who own cryptocurrencies has increased compared to last year. In Germany, this growth was 7%; in Mexico, 8%; and in Japan, 4%. Among respondents from countries such as the U.S., India, and Nigeria, 58% have a good understanding of the concept of decentralization. Most survey participants believe that reforms are needed in the global financial system, and 18% of them stated that a complete overhaul of the system is necessary.
82% of respondents noted that power is heavily concentrated in the hands of Web2 companies. About one-third of respondents believe that decentralization could have a positive impact on social media, banking systems, and money transfers.
Consensys also emphasized that the adoption rate of digital assets in developing countries is significantly higher than in developed countries. In Nigeria, 65% of respondents expressed a desire to use cryptocurrencies. In Argentina, this figure—though above average—stands at 52%.
Survey figures show that 58% of Nigerians, 47% of South Africans, and 45% of Filipinos see cryptocurrencies as the future of finance. At the same time, in the United Kingdom and Germany, this figure is significantly lower—19% and 17%, respectively.
The study involved 18,000 people from 18 countries around the world.
Earlier, the American company Tether reported that as of early October, there were 109 million holders of the popular stablecoin USDT worldwide, which is close to the number of Ether holders—128 million.
