The weighted average effective interest rate on mortgage loans in Ukraine in January 2023 was 7.5%. The rate decreased compared to December 2022 (8.3%). This is evidenced by the results of a survey conducted by the National Bank. Only four Ukrainian banks continued to issue new mortgage contracts in January, primarily under the government support programs “Affordable Mortgage” and “Eselya.” At the same time, borrowers took out loans to purchase homes on the secondary real estate market.
During this period, 357 contracts were issued totaling 449.5 million hryvnia. This represents a twofold decline in mortgage lending compared to January 2022. Over the past year, banking institutions issued a total of 2,009 mortgage loans totaling 1.96 billion hryvnia. The decline in this segment of financial products compared to 2021 was 5.3-fold in terms of the number of contracts and 4.3-fold in monetary terms.
