The government has announced another type of social benefit for Ukrainians. Citizens who care for individuals requiring constant care are eligible for a monthly benefit of 2,600 UAH, according to a press release from the Ministry of Reintegration. This financial support is paid only if the caregiver and the partially incapacitated person live together.
When an application for the benefit is submitted, social welfare officials and representatives of specialized services may conduct an inspection to verify that the applicant and the person under their care live together.
Care for the person must be provided free of charge, not in exchange for wages. In addition, the applicant’s monthly salary must be below the subsistence minimum. As of 2023, this amount is 2,589 UAH. Government support is provided only for the care of the following categories of citizens:
- children with disabilities;
- children with serious illnesses;
- elderly people with cognitive impairments;
- people with a Group 1 disability;
- terminally ill individuals who cannot care for themselves independently.
Applications for this benefit can be submitted at any office of the social protection authorities, the executive bodies of city, town, and village councils, or the State Tax Administration.
