The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine is implementing strict budget austerity measures. Prime Minister Serhiy Koretsky announced in the Verkhovna Rada that the government plans to save 70 billion hryvnias to be redirected toward funding the Armed Forces.
According to the prime minister, significant funds will be freed up through the introduction of strict austerity measures that do not affect defense needs. All 70 billion identified will be allocated entirely to military needs.
Koretsky emphasized that social obligations, including the payment of pensions and salaries, will be fulfilled without any problems. He also called on members of parliament to actively participate in the preparation of the 2027 state budget, taking into account the principle of maximizing savings on every budget hryvnia.
On August 23, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy appealed to allies in Scandinavia and the Baltic region, asking them to influence the European Union’s decision on urgent financial support for Ukraine. At present, the country is facing a financial deficit of $27 billion.
On August 25, Politico reported that Ukraine is facing a defense funding shortfall estimated at 23 billion euros due to delays in financial aid from Western partners.
On August 1, the Verkhovna Rada once again refused to repeal tax exemptions on international packages valued at up to 150 euros. According to the Ministry of Finance of Ukraine, passing such a law could bring in up to 10 billion hryvnias annually to the budget.
In addition, citizens are encouraged to explore ways to manage their finances more effectively and to seek advice from financial experts to improve their budget planning.
