Since late February of last year, millions of our fellow citizens have been forced to leave their homes and seek refuge in other regions. The number of internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Ukraine has exceeded 8 million. It is not only the government that provides assistance to refugees; support is also provided by international organizations.
For example, aid from UNICEF has generally been provided to large families fleeing the war. The UN’s multi-purpose cash assistance program was introduced in 2022 in all regions hosting large numbers of displaced persons. This applies to the Vinnytsia, Dnipropetrovsk, Zakarpattia, Lviv, Ternopil, Khmelnytskyi, Chernivtsi, Ivano-Frankivsk, and Poltava regions.
Since the start of the war, more than 10 million applications have been submitted through refugee registration platforms. This year, organizations will continue to disburse benefits for applications submitted by December 2022.
Through UNICEF, large families will be able to receive assistance in the amount of 2,200 UAH once a month, but for no more than five people. The family will receive a lump-sum payment covering three months. From the UN, each family member can receive 6,600 UAH—that is, 2,200 UAH for three months.
